- A Sony Xperia phone just passed through the FCC with label number PY7-60551T.
- It is unclear if this is the Xperia 1 III or Xperia 5 III, but it is very likely one of them.
- FCC certification is one of the final steps to launching a smartphone here in the United States, so this phone should land here soon.
Sony has already “launched” two new phones in its much-loved Xperia series: the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III. However, as usual, Sony is staggering the release around the world and being very vague about when certain countries will actually get it.
Fans in the United States, though, can rest easy because one of the phones just passed through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Achieving FCC certification is usually one of the final stops on a smartphone’s journey from development to US sales. As such, at least one of the new Xperia phones will land in US stores soon.

Unfortunately, it isn’t clear which phone this actually is. The FCC sometimes uses randomly generated codenames for devices in the interest of confidentiality on behalf of brands. This time, it’s PY7-60551T. We’ve seen this before with Sony phones. However, considering Sony has already confirmed the Xperia 1 III and 5 III will land in the US, it’s clear that this certification is for one of them.
So far, rumors abound that Sony won’t push these phones into the US market until the end of August. With this FCC listing live now, though, it’s very possible that rumor is incorrect and we’ll see them here sooner than that.
The Sony Xperia 1 III is already available in select markets such as China and Japan.
