Earlier this week, Twitter’s new owner and interim CEO Elon Musk said he plans to charge Twitter users for verification. In other words, the blue check mark that appears next to verified profiles would now have a paywall. The fee would roll into the current Twitter Blue subscription program, which Twitter employees are currently revamping.
At first, Musk said this would be a $20-per-month fee. Twitter users showed incredible and immediate hostility towards this, so Elon lowered the hypothetical price to $8 each month. He later clarified that this fee would go up or down to match the buying power of your local currency, to make things fair.
