Realme X2 Pro recents page with RAM management

It seems like flagship Android phones up the ante every year when it comes to RAM. Over a decade ago, 1GB or even 512MBs was considered to be a lot of RAM for a high-end phone. Fast-forward to 2021, and we’ve seen phones with 16GB or even 18GB of memory.

How much RAM is good enough for you though? Are you satisfied with 2GB or 3GB of RAM in your phone, or do you need a ton more memory? Let us know by taking the poll below.

There are a couple of reasons why you’d want more RAM, with multitasking being the biggest one. More RAM generally allows for more apps to be held in the background. Phones with a paltry amount of memory can only juggle a few apps at a time before an app needs to be reloaded entirely.

Then again, there does come a point where having a ton of RAM doesn’t really make a difference for real-world usage. And there are other factors to consider when it comes to performance too, such as the type of RAM, the processor, and the type of storage.

We’ve also seen more companies offering “virtual RAM” solutions, essentially treating a few gigabytes of onboard storage as extra RAM (i.e. a swap-file). Storage isn’t as fast as RAM, but it could definitely help if your phone’s multitasking capabilities aren’t up to scratch.

Nevertheless, give us your opinion via the poll above and submit a comment below if you’ve got more to say.
