- Oppo will announce Color OS 12 later this week.
- The new software is based on Android 12.
- It will also be the Android skin for OnePlus devices in China.
Android OEMs are gearing up to announce their respective software skins based on Android 12, and it looks like Oppo is first in line. Color OS 12 will be Oppo’s version of Android 12. The company will unveil the new software on September 16. The launch will take place in China at 6 PM local time (6 AM ET).
Oppo is expected to bring a number of new features and UI changes on Color OS 12. The update should also give us a good sense of what to expect from OnePlus’ Oxygen OS update based on Android 12. The two companies have joined forces when it comes to research and development. They also recently merged the codebase of Color OS and Oxygen OS. OnePlus phones in China already run Color OS and we expect this integration to reflect more starkly on global devices with the Android 12 update.

While Oppo will reveal what Color OS has to offer later this week, don’t expect the company to roll out a stable release just yet. This is because Google itself hasn’t officially rolled out the stable version of Android 12. A recent rumor suggested that the official Android 12 launch might only happen in the first week of October. So you might have to wait for a little longer to get a taste of stable Color OS 12 on your Oppo phones.
The company rolled out an Android 12 beta for the Find X3 back in May. However, it wasn’t based on Color OS 12. So you can expect the first official beta for the new software to land on September 16. A global launch might happen a few weeks later.
In the meantime, if you’d like to download official Color OS 12 wallpapers, you can do so from here.
