- A bug in Google Assistant’s Quick Phrases feature is causing a persistent toast notification on Pixel phones.
- The notification makes it difficult to see the caller ID and renders the notification area unresponsive.
- Disabling Google Assistant’s Quick Phrases is a temporary solution until Google issues a fix.
Update, November 29, 2024 (03:19 PM ET): Pixel smartphones have started running into a frustrating new bug, as we experienced in the form of a persistent “Say ‘Answer’” notification that resisted attempts to dismiss it. But as it turns out, that’s not the only way this unwanted behavior can manifest.
Over on Reddit, we’ve been spotting posts from other Pixel owners who are running into similar problems with the own phones, but with slightly different notifications involved. On the site’s Pixel sub, user rankGawd4Eva shares that their Pixel 8 Pro has been doing this same thing, but with “Say ‘Stop’” remaining on screen, instead. We would not be surprised if any one of Google’s Quick Phrases words could be involved here. Regardless of which message is getting stuck, you should go ahead and give our trouble-shooting steps here a try.
