  • A Weibo leaker has claimed that the Redmi K50 series will offer the Snapdragon 895 chipset.
  • The new phones will apparently offer 67W charging and center-mounted punch-hole cutouts too.

Redmi general manager Lu Weibing sent tongues wagging last month after he asked social media users what they’d like to see from “future K50 products.” A prominent leaker subsequently dished out a few purported upgrades as well.

Now, Weibo leaker Bald Panda has claimed that the Redmi K50 series will offer a Snapdragon 895 processor, 67W wired charging, and a center-mounted punch-hole cutout. You can view a screenshot of the machine-translated post below.

The apparent presence of the Snapdragon 895 SoC suggests that the Redmi K50 series will only launch in December 2021 or January 2022. After all, Qualcomm tends to announce its next-generation flagship chipset in early December each year. In any event, we’re expecting Qualcomm’s new SoC to offer brand-new Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710, and Cortex-A510 CPU cores.

Otherwise, 67W wired charging would be a welcome improvement over the K40 range’s 33W charging too. The Mi 11 Ultra packs 67W charging capable of topping up the 5,000mAh battery in 37 minutes. So we’d expect similar results from the K50 series if it has a ~5,000mAh battery too.

Machine translation suggests that the K50 family will receive an improved main camera too, but we’re not quite sure what this will entail. We’ve got 48MP, 64MP, and 108MP main sensors for the K40, K40 Pro, and K40 Pro Plus respectively. But hopefully we see cameras like the 50MP Samsung GN1 and GN2 sensors, delivering larger pixels and sensor sizes.
