Google and Samsung may be locked in a new arms race. While they’ve long competed in areas like phone specs and smart home platforms, the new race involves support, as each strives to prove their devices will still be viable a few years later. As of the launch of the Galaxy S24 lineup Samsung is promising seven years of Android upgrades, matching Google’s seven years of updates for its new Pixel phones.
Samsung has promised at least three years of Android updates for all flagships from 2019 and later, and extended that to four for various devices, including tablets, flagships, foldable phones, cheaper Galaxy A-series phones, and Galaxy Watches.
