- The Unicode Consortium announced 37 new icons and an additional 75 skin tone variations as a part of the 2022 Emoji 14.0.
- New additions include biting lip, melting face, heart hands, face holding back tears, and plenty more.
- You can expect to see the new icons available on your smartphones and other devices at some point next year.
There are even more Emoji now to ensure that you can get away without typing a single word in your text conversations. With Unicode 14.0, the Unicode Consortium announced the availability of 37 brand new Emoji and an additional 75 skin tone variations for 112 new options in total.
Biting lip, melting face, face with open eyes and hand over mouth, saluting face, face with a peeking eye, and face holding back tears are notable additions this time around. There are also more heart-related gestures this time. I honestly thought the heart hands were already available, and finger heart (hand with index finger and thumb crossed) is popular with K-Pop fans.
The new 2022 Emoji bring the total number of icons up to 3,633. I regularly use two, so that number definitely caught me by surprise.
However, there’s a wait before you can send heart hands to your favorite people in the world. Next year, you can expect to see the new Emoji on smartphones, laptops, and other platforms. That’s because the Unicode Consortium only releases a finalized list. It’s then up to OEMs and apps to implement them.
