- ID Pass is rolling out for Google Wallet starting today.
- Users will be able to create and store a digital version of their US passport.
- The app is also adding support for New Mexico driver’s licenses or state IDs.
Update, December 11, 2024 (03:52 PM ET): Being able to quickly present a digital version of your passport sounded like a great way to speed our way through security checkpoints, while reducing the risk of losing that valuable identity document. After last week hearing about Google’s plans to bring this functionality to Wallet, 9to5Google now reports that it should be rolling out widely to Wallet users. We have yet to spot it on all of our devices, but have a little patience, and it should be there soon.
Original article, December 6, 2024 (01:06 PM ET): Google Wallet users have been able to create and store digital versions of their driver’s licenses or state IDs for a while now. Back in September, the tech giant announced it would expand this feature to include a new type of digital ID — US passports. It is now rolling out support for passports, as well as support for driver’s licenses and state IDs from a new state.
