This week we got the first glimpse of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Netflix number about a planet-killing comet on course to collide with Earth. The creator of The Haunting of Hill House — Mike Flanagan — is bringing a new horror series set on a creepy island. Fans of The Sopranos get a treat with a new movie trailer for The Many Saints of Newark. And for the big finish, we have the highly anticipated trailer for The Matrix: Resurrections. No One Gets Out Alive
It’s a classic tale of a haunted house. An immigrant in pursuit of the American dream lands up at the wrong boarding house. Sobbing tenants, strange noises from the basement, and disturbing nightmares make her life miserable in what looks like an all too familiar recipe for horror.
Don’t Look Up
The brand new movie trailer for this DiCaprio title doesn’t give us much apart from the actor panting and heaving with anxiety. We know what the film is about, though. Our dear Leo plays an astronomy professor who makes an astounding discovery with the help of his student, essayed by none other than Jennifer Lawrence. A comet is about to wipe out all humanity, but no one really seems to care. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), the two embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an indifferent President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). Yeah! That’s quite an impressive cast right there.
Midnight Mass
Cut to the lyrics of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,” this new trailer introduces us to Zach Gilford as a disgraced man returning home to the small and sleepy Crockett island. Things start going terribly wrong when a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater) arrives on the scene, triggering unexplained miracles and frightening omens. The teaser footage looks really interesting, and we hope the book matches the cover.
The Guilty
Jake Gyllenhaal is a 911 operator who gets a disturbing call from a kidnapping victim. With little to no details about the location of the abducted woman, he rallies every resource to save her. However, there’s a twist in the tale and more to the story than we’re made to believe.
Encounter
Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer star in this upcoming Amazon Prime Video original. The new movie trailer for Encounter is a mixed bag of emotions and action. Ahmed plays a Marine who goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from an “unhuman threat.” That’s all we really know from the logline of the film. There should be a more detailed trailer out sometime in the near future.
Birds of Paradise
A ballet film with two rival dancers and one prize — sounds like a recipe for jealousy and some fierce competition. Coming to Amazon Prime Video later this month, Birds of Paradise will feature Diana Silvers and Kristine Froseth as the two ballerinas who pretend to form a strong friendship at first but soon realize they’ve always been in each other’s way.
The Many Saints of Newark
If you’re a fan of the cult HBO show The Sopranos, you’re going to enjoy this new movie trailer for The Many Saints of Newark. The film tells the story of a young Tony Soprano in his teenage years, eager to join the family business. The casting is pretty perfect for all the characters as they starkly resemble their older versions from the show. Don’t miss Chris Moltisanti as a baby right at the end of the clip.
The Matrix: Resurrections
We saved the best for last. The Matrix is coming back, complete with a lot of its original cast. The new trailer introduces us to the long-awaited fourth film in the franchise. Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) reunite after 18 years. Jada Pinkett Smith, Lambert Wilson, and Daniel Bernhardt also reprise their roles from the original trilogy. Meanwhile, Neil Patrick Harris, Christina Ricci, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Jonathan Groff join as new cast members. The movie will be available on December 22 in theaters and on HBO Max.
