- OnePlus has revealed when the Watch 2 will get Wear OS 5.
- Wear OS 5 won’t roll out to the Watch 2 until Q3 2025.
- It seemed like the Watch 3 would only receive two years of security updates, but OnePlus has since clarified that this is not the case.
Update: March 4, 2025 (3:00 PM ET): OnePlus has reached out to Android Authority and clarified that the earlier communication about the update policy on the OnePlus Watch 3 was incorrect. The Watch 3 will indeed receive three years of security updates, just like the Watch 2. Here’s the company’s statement in full:
- The OnePlus Watch 2 will receive 3 years of software updates (WearOS 4, 5 & 6). In addition, we are happy to confirm that it will also receive 3 years of quarterly security updates; from 2024 until 2026.
- The OnePlus Watch 3 will receive 3 years of software updates (WearOS 5, 6 & 7), as well as 3 years of quarterly security updates; from 2025 until 2027.
Original article: March 3, 2025 (12:57 PM ET): OnePlus has had a few stumbles recently, as it infamously released the Watch 3 with a typo. Subsequently, the company pushed back the open sales date of the Watch 3 to April to refresh its stock with error-free models. Now, the company has confirmed some more less-than-ideal news for the Watch 3, as well as the Watch 2.
