Update (2:47 PM ET February 7, 2025): After sending importers into a panic these past few days, the Trump administration has once again backed away from an aggressive policy change, today announcing that removing the de minimis exemption for lower-value imports of goods from China is on indefinite hold. The White House explains that the US will resume accepting these imports without tariffs until “notification by the Secretary of Commerce to the President that adequate systems are in place to fully and expediently process and collect tariff revenue.”

Basically, it put the cart before the horse and announced this big change without being ready to actually collect tariffs on all this stuff. Once people and procedures to handle them are in place, the de minimis exemption should again be removed. But until that day arrives, go nuts on Temu.
