It seems like just the other day that we saw AI camera modes first appearing on phones, with 2017’s Huawei Mate 10 Pro being part of the first wave of devices with this option. Fast forward to 2021 and you can still find AI modes on phones from a variety of brands (called AI, Scene Optimizer, AI Cam, and more).
Are you actually using your phone camera’s AI mode though? That’s the topic of our featured poll today. So let us know by choosing an answer below and leaving a comment if you have more on your mind.
A phone camera’s AI mode typically uses object and scene recognition to adjust various parameters. For example, the AI mode might crank up the saturation when you point your camera at food or shoot in HDR when you point the camera at a sunset.
Some AI modes also dish out prompts based on a given situation, such as asking if you want to switch to the ultra-wide camera when a landscape is detected, suggesting macro mode when you’re shooting flowers, or offering portrait mode for people.
So let us know whether you use your phone’s AI mode (if it has one) via the poll above. For what it’s worth, the Pixel series does make suggestions for things like selfies and level framing, but it doesn’t actually have the dedicated AI mode we’re talking about.
