  • Realme is reportedly readying Apple MagSafe-like magnetic charging tech.
  • Renders of two Realme “MagDart” chargers have leaked.
  • The company could be first in bringing magnetic charging to the Android smartphone ecosystem.

Apple’s magnetic wireless charging tech could be headed to Android phones starting with Realme devices. The Chinese company recently acquired a trademark for “MagDart” from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). This indicated that it’s working on Apple MagSafe-like magnetic charging tech. However, a new leak has gone a step further to show the possible Realme MagDart wireless chargers in flesh.

Coming from GizmoChina, leaked renders of the two Realme “MagDart” accessories show a circular and a box-shaped magnetic wireless charger. The former is pretty similar to Apple’s round MagSafe charger for the iPhone 12 series. It would also most likely just snap to the back of a Realme phone magnetically to enable wireless charging. Apparently, it will offer 15W wireless charging. In comparison, Apple’s MagSafe enables up to 15W of peak power delivery. Realme’s version is also said to be slightly thinner than Apple’s MagSafe charger.

Meanwhile, the second Realme “MagDart” charger is tipped to offer faster wireless charging speeds “that will rival modern wired fast-charging tech.” The box-shaped accessory sports a USB-C port and has a grille at the bottom, possibly for keeping temperatures in check during charging.

There’s not much else we know right now about Realme’s so-called MagDart wireless charging tech. It’ll possibly debut with a new Realme phone, likely a flagship. However, this is the first we’ve heard of magnetic charging tech on Android phones. If Realme gets there before other Android OEMs, it would be a significant milestone to achieve for the company. We can also expect to see the tech on devices from Oppo, OnePlus, and Vivo subsequently since all the brands fall under the BBK Electronics umbrella and are known to share resources.
