The headphone port has become a rare sight on flagship phones, with the likes of Asus and Sony being among the few manufacturers launching high-end phones with the 3.5mm port. Otherwise, brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and others have all ditched it on their flagships.
We still see it on mid-rangers and low-end devices though, making for a welcome sight and a rare occasion where cheaper phones offer something that flagships lack. Nevertheless, we wanted to find out whether Android Authority readers still have a headphone jack on their smartphones. So here’s how you voted in this poll.
Does your current phone have a headphone port?
Results
The poll was posted on June 16, and a grand total of over 7,700 votes were counted as of writing. This gives us a huge sample size to work with, and the final results show that almost two-thirds of respondents still have a 3.5mm port on their phone.
That might be a surprise to some in light of most flagships ditching the standard, but it’s an understandable result. Budget phones are the real volume drivers in the smartphone industry, and devices in this segment generally keep the headphone port. So it seems more likely that the average consumer has a phone with the port.

Many enthusiasts have also previously expressed their displeasure at manufacturers ditching the standard. And the comments show that the poll attracted these voices as well, with some readers saying they wouldn’t buy a phone without a 3.5mm port.
Nevertheless, 38.7% of respondents said their current device lacks a headphone port. Comments suggest that the lack of the port was either a non-factor or that users were bothered by the omission but bought their device anyway.
Comments
- DBS: It does and the absence of a headphone jack is enough for me to NOT buy a phone. It’s a non-negotiable feature.
- Glenn Hughes: I won’t buy a phone without a headphone jack. The irony is that most “flagship” phones don’t offer them, so I’m using a Pixel 4a, even though I’d have happily spent more on a higher end device
- Paul Russell: Yes and No. I have two dailies, one has a audio port and one doesn’t. However, I never use it, I’m always wireless with my MX3s. So I voted No in the poll
- Painfully_Candid: As a musician, I use the headphone port quite frequently. If I need to run music through our sound system I don’t want to be searching from some stupid dongle–we already have various devices in our system that use headphone connectors, so simply being able to plug in our phones is easy and convenient. Almost daily, when I’m practicing drums, I plug my phone into the line-in on my drum kit so I can play along. It’s a bad choice to stop including this port on phones.
- David L: My current phone, a Samsung S20 FE 5G is missing a headphone jack. It is a major annoyance. All my previous phone have had one.
- Gianluca Di Maggio: It’s clear to see that it’s still a very beloved feature. So many phones don’t offer one anymore and yet the majority of consumers still got a headphone jack.
- fixedgrin: I currently use two devices equipped with headphone jacks and LED notification indicators. I begin to suspect that absence of the latter in majority of modern phones is a severely underestimated threat to ergonomics.
- DigitalBenny: Don’t have it. Don’t use it. Don’t miss it.
- Sony Xperia 1 II baby! Wanna know a secret? I don’t even use it that much lol. But when I do IT’S THERE!
